U.S. Department of State Announces Basketball Sports Visitor Program with Youth from Burma

The North Carolina AAU and Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation, will be teaming up to provide basketball training for international athletes with the U.S. State Department Sports Visitors Program. Six boys and six girls from Burma will be in Charlotte, sponsored by the State Dept. The athletes are age 14- 17 and were selected by the U.S. Embassy for the trip.

The program is intended to train young athletes who are encouraged to return home and conduct in-country clinics with their newly learned skills.

The visitors will participate in clinics and scrimmages, participating side by side with local youth.

Charlotte Bobcats GM Richard Cho traveled to Burma last June as a Sports Diplomacy Envoy. The Bobcats will also provide a clinic and other activities, and the athletes will attend a Bobcats game.

The AAU sessions will be conducted by the NCAAU Skill Squad, a group of former college and professional players and coaches who conduct specialized basketball training.
