Kerry is a native of Mississippi, but has lived in Charlotte while working for the city for 33 years. A two-sport star in high school, he played basketball at Steed College and in the U.S. Air Force.

Kerry has been an AAU Head Coach for 27 years (Charlotte Nets 17/u) after assisting for three years. His Teams have competed in 21 National Championship Tournaments where they earned five National Medals. His teams have recorded over 600 wins.

Over 200 Nets players have earned college basketball scholarships, with the help and support of Coach Sargent.

His teams have three Super Regional Championships and a Super Showcase final four. Kerry has won five state championships and finished in the State Final Four in Ten additional seasons. In addition to coaching, Kerry has helped manage the Nets Club through his tenure as they have been one of the most successful organizations in N.C.

In addition to his AAU duties, Kerry has coached at Mallard Creek High School since 2007, and is currently an assistant for the girls team.
