Shea is from Fayetteville, NC and played at Terry Stanford High School. In 1996, she was the USA Today National Player of the year and was the Top female high school scholar/athlete in the U.S. She scored 3,002 points in her high school career and had a career high of 61 points.

Shea played AAU basketball for fellow Hall of Fame member John Ellington, and the two led the team to 2 Jr. Olympic Championships.

At the University of Connecticut, she played on teams that went 130/10. She won the big East Rookie of the year, national freshman of the year, big east player of the year, Kodak All-American, Final Four MVP, Sports Illustrated Woman Player of the Year and the Honda Sports Award in basketball. UConn won the National Championship in 2000.

Shea played on the US National Team for the 2000 Jones Cup and earned a gold medal.

Two serious knee injuries curtailed her pro career and instead she entered coaching. Today Shea is an Assistant at powerhouse UConn.
